After three weekends of competition in a row, the Texas Gymnastics crew is enjoying our first weekend off! Each and every single member of our competitive teams gave it all they had these past three weeks, and we couldn't be more proud of them.
At our first meet of the season, hosted by UT Dallas, we set a pretty high bar for ourselves with several our our members making their way to the podium. The men and women competed at the same time, so throughout the competition you'd hear one team cheering on the other from clear across the gym! It was definitely a fun meet to kick off the season with. With a 2nd place finish for the women and a 3rd place finish for the men, we were ready to head to Houston the following weekend.
The Houston Invitational was UH Gymnastics' very first meet to host, and we were extremely excited to be a part of it! It was a women's only competition, but our men came along for the ride and were right on the competition floor to cheer on the ladies. The women split into Level 6 and Level 8 for this meet, and both teams took home 1st place along with a lot of individual awards! This competition was special for us because a friend of the team, Justin Powers, was the Vault and Floor judge. Justin competes in the Alumni division at most of the TGC meets, and also competes in the Decathlon at NAIGC Nationals.
The third weekend of competition was over in Aggieland for the TAMU annual invitational. The women competed in the morning, and several of our women debuted brand new routines. For the second weekend in a row, the ladies earned the first place title for Level 8 team! After supporting the ladies all morning, the men then took over the competition floor and put on a show, earning 3rd place in the Men's Team division.
After three weekends of traveling, we are enjoying these two weeks off but we are also excited for our own competition coming up on March 2nd! We're hosting it at Austin Gymnastics Club, and more details will be published in a following blog post. You can also check out our Facebook event by going to our Facebook page.
